So … what is your due date?
What´s your due date?…..this is THE question on everyone´s lips…..
Your doctor or midwife will work out your EDD on the first visit.Estimated Delivery Date (ESTIMATED is the important word here!) The EDD is usually worked out based on a pregnancy lasting 40 weeks, so it is a “guesstimated” date.
The doctor or midwife will add 280 days using the first day of your last menstrual period ( 40 weeks) to calculate the EDD. As you can see this means that your last period and ovulation are included therefore for the first 2 weeks of the 40 weeks YOU ARE NOT EVEN PREGNANT. Using this method is a good guideline though so use it as a guide not a certainty.
Can´t remember the date of your last period? Don´t have a “normal” cycle every 28 days? not to worry. Your doctor will work out your EDD using the first scan.
Your Body and your Baby will know when the time is right this is the most important thing to remember. When the time to birth is approaching it is too easy to get caught up n the “due date” anxiety, relax and know that when the time is right it will all happen.
Did you know that less than 5% of babies arrive on their EDD.
The scans that you have throughout your pregnancy will show your Baby in great detail. This is wonderful however remember that Baby´s development will happen at the rate that is just right for him / her. While the scans are detailed they do not show the full maturity of all your Baby´s systems. There is no rushing it!
No two babies are the same and.your Baby´s growth and development is unique.
