Nausea and lack of appetite - what does it mean ?

So you feel sick and / or have no appetite. Why?
What is your body telling you and are you listening?
When we understand why we feel like this it makes it easier to deal with.
It is very simple.
There are 2 main processes that use a huge amount of energy in the body.... self-healing / regeneration and digestion.
When we are un-well or have an injury or are pregnant (ladies) our body requires all the energy that it can get to get back to balance. While we still need nutrition, this comes second to the need to heal or regenerate. This explains why the nausea / loss of appetite generally comes in waves, to give us the opportunity to provide the nutrition required while not interfering with the body's most urgent needs.

So what can you do to help and feel better?
Find out the cause and treat if needed.
Drink plenty of water...stay hydrated.
Eat food that is easily digestible and when your body signals that it needs it. i.e. in between the waves of nausea or when you feel hungry.

Here are some suggestions to consider -
Avoid pre-prepared / packaged processed foods.
Eat fresh foods and organic when possible.

Steamed Vegetables - Most vegetables are rich in fiber, but steaming them until they become soft will reduce the amount of indigestible fiber in them. The good thing is that steaming will not affect the mineral and vitamin content of vegetables.

Juicing - You can process vegetables and fruits in a juicing machine to get rid of fiber and feed your body with all the nutrients. Blended smoothies will make your vegetables and fruits even more digestible, but they may still contain fiber.

Nuts - Most all types of seeds and nuts are great for easy digestion. The reason for this is that these foods contain lots of omega 3 fatty acids as well as natural types of oils that also give the digestive system a boost. Nuts and seeds are considered to be in the top 10 of easy to digest foods.
Smoothies
Bananas
Avocados
Oatmeal
Eggs
Yogurt
Chicken breast
Salmon

FOODS TO AVOID OR EAT IN MODERATION.
  1. Raw vegetables and fruits
  2. Beef
  3. Greasy foods
  4. Spicy foods
  5. High fat foods
  6. Sodas, coffee, tea

Depending on the cause of the nausea / loss of appetite your body will require different nutrition please seek advice from a nutritional adviser if you can.

For most of us when we find out that we are expecting a baby, it is a wonderfully happy and exciting time. It is, after all, one of life´s miracles.

Throughout the pregnancy we watch the development week by week and marvel at the changes in our body as our baby grows inside us.
One of the most important developments is the Sphenoid bone.

The Sphenoid bone is a complex structure and is thought to be the first bone formed in a growing baby. It is connected to every other bone in the skull and , through the lining of the brain, to every vertebrae in the spine. Through this awesome connection the Sphenoid has an effect on every system of the body.

The Sphenoid bone  sits behind the eyes and is shaped like a butterfly. The alignment of the Sphenoid bone reflects the alignment of the rest of the body.
When the Sphenoid bone is out of balance or twisted  it is known as "core distortion".

It appears that we are all born with a degree of core distortion and this has been  found to be the cause of many illnesses and  dis-ease.

I recommend that everyone has Sphenoid realignment and that all babies have the Sphenoid checked and realigned as soon after birth as possible.

I will ask for a full picture of what the pregnancy and the labour was like ,  because even prior to birth, events, environment and the health of the mother  can impact on the growing baby.  How was the baby lying in the womb? Were there any issues for the baby during the pregnancy? Did mum suffer from sickness or high blood pressure?

Sometimes before or during labour the obstetrician may decide that there is a need to induce or assist the delivery for the safety of the Mother and the baby.  Did you have a normal delivery? or  forceps or vacuum delivery? Was your labour induced? Did you have an epidural?  Planned or emergency caesarean section?   The labour and delivery  can potentially cause dysfunction in the early days or weeks for the baby.

Your baby has quite an adventure during the pregnancy and the birth process and every birth is unique, as is every baby.

The baby´s head , due to the joints of the skull, is designed  to move in whatever way is necessary to allow the baby through the birth canal. When you think of  a forceps or suction delivery  or a caesarean section you can see that these methods could have a negative effect on the baby´s alignment.

The nerves that initiate digestion, elimination, sucking and swallowing reflexes  may be compromised during normal delivery as well as during these procedures. Two of the most frequent causes of discomfort for a baby are colic and constipation.

Sphenoid realignment may benefit:

  • Birth trauma
  • Colic/Wind
  • Reflux
  • Constipation
  • sleep problems
  • Irritability
  • feeding issues.
  • Plagiocephaly (flat head)
  • Torticollis (twisted neck)
  • Speech development
  • Co-ordination and physical development
The earlier these problems are resolved, the less stress will be placed on the newborn's body.

It is recommended that all newborns receive a core distortion evaluation as soon as possible.  You can plan for your newborn to  be seen during the first 24 hours after birth or as soon as any issues are noticed.

In the first years of life your child is learning to crawl, stand, walk and run. There may be many bumps and falls and these may result in twists and injury to the skeleton. When the Sphenoid is in alignment it is much easier for the body to heal and fall back into balance.

Plan check-up visits when the baby is one month, three months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years old to make sure there is normal structural growth.
